A Transformational Project for the Animals, Adopters, & Community
Construction at the Sacramento SPCA
We’re thrilled to share that
construction at our shelter’s adoption center is expected to
begin soon!
Thanks to a lifesaving gift from the Estate of William Michael Ledbetter, the Sacramento SPCA is launching a transformative project to improve each cat’s journey—from the moment they enter our shelter to the day they are adopted. And, thanks to additional support from our generous donors, we are creating a more welcoming, engaging experience for the animals and people who visit our adoption center.
At the heart of this project is the creation of a 3,140-square-foot feline center, featuring dedicated space for cats and kittens, including a separate intake entrance and lobby, upgraded feline housing, and neonatal nursery. In addition, we are enhancing the adoption center to create an inviting, accessible space for all, featuring a new reception area, comfortable visitor spaces, updated animal housing, and digital tools to easily locate adoptable animals and access resources.
Construction is anticipated to begin the week of February 23rd and conclude in early summer — just in time for peak kitten season.
What to Expect During Construction:
- The adoption center will remain open throughout the project.
- Clear signage will guide visitors to alternative entrances and temporary cat housing areas.
- Temporary adjustments to cat housing will limit feline capacity and intake, and we are grateful to our amazing foster families for helping out during construction.
We appreciate your patience and support as we make these important improvements for the animals and community. Thank you for helping us build a brighter future for the animals—we will provide regular updates to keep you informed throughout the project.
