Deciding whether or not to euthanize your beloved companion can be among life’s most difficult decisions. You may feel you have been asked to make a decision between life and death for someone you love. Yet, you are also keenly aware that your animal is suffering or has little quality of life. It’s very normal to feel confused and emotional during this decision-making process.
The following questions may help you make your decision:
1) Why is it time to consider euthanasia?
2) Has your pet lost his quality of life?
3) Is your animal suffering?
4) Are there behavioral problems that compromise the safety and well-being of your animal or others?
While it may be difficult to admit to yourself that any of these limitations may be the reason you are considering euthanasia for your companion, please know that they are among the most common reasons for euthanasia.
Once you have made the decision, the Sacramento SPCA does offer end of life services. We are available Tuesday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The cost to provide euthanasia for your animal is $35.00.
If you would like to have the animal’s remains cremated, we can facilitate that service for you. The ashes are returned in a cedar box that you may choose to have engraved. A customer care representative can help guide you through the available options. Please call 916-504-2851 for current fee schedule
