YOUTH COMMUNITY SERVICE AND GROUP PROJECTS
Whether your school requires community service hours, or you'd like to organize a youth group volunteer project for your school or organization, there are many projects you can do for the animals. Please note: You cannot earn community service credit by volunteering directly with the animals.
School Service
All community service applicants are required to complete a community service application, obtain consent from a parent or guardian and return the form to the Sacramento SPCA Humane Education Department before beginning a service project. Click on "Community Service Application" to view a printable copy of the application. Students of any age or grade level may complete these projects.
To receive credit for time worked, you must record your time on a time sheet. A completed time sheet must be brought to the Sacramento SPCA along with your project so that it can be reviewed and signed by a Sacramento SPCA staff member. Click on "Community Service Time Sheet" to view a printable copy of the time sheet. Remember, each time you bring in any part of your project you must submit your time sheet to receive credit.
You can choose one of these projects. Click on the links for flyers to guide you in completing your project.
1. Newspaper Drive
Newspapers help the animals stay clean and comfortable during their stay with us. They are placed in the bottom of cages housing cats, puppies and small animals.
2. Used Book Drive
The used books are collected and donated to the Sacramento SPCA for their used book sales.
3. Towel, Blanket and Toy Drive
The used towels help bathe shelter animals in need of grooming and the blankets offer warmth and comfort for our dog guests. The new and used animal toys help entertain shelter animals to prevent boredom.
4. Thrift Store Item Drive
The SPCA Thrift Store is always in need of items in good working condition.
5. Pet Treat Drive
Treats help us train and reward shelter pets. Most people combine this with a pet toy drive.
6. Other Valuable Projects
In addition to the above opportunities, there are many other things you can do to raise money to help us care for the animals, for example:
Please see the above group projects suggestions. For more information regarding these group project opportunities, please call 916-504-2849 or e-mail the education department.
