BE A PART OF OUR AWARD WINNING PROGRAM!
Sacramento magazine readers' 2005, 2006, 2007 AND 2009
choice for Best place to volunteer
Why was the Sacramento SPCA voted "Best Place to Volunteer" by readers of Sacramento magazine? Because we take your commitment seriously. We provide training that prepares you to walk dogs, socialize dogs, cats and small animals, understand more about animal behavior and so much more. At the Sacramento SPCA our volunteers are at the heart of improving the lives of homeless animals awaiting adoption.

Join us!
Our program begins with a new volunteer orientation - an informative introduction to the SPCA and a description of each of our volunteer positions. Volunteer orientation is held once a month at the Sacramento SPCA in Gracie's Adoption Center.
Please visit our calendar for upcoming volunteer orientation dates. Volunteer applications are available by clicking this link, or will also be available at the orientation. To sign up for new volunteer orientation, or ask a question about volunteer opportunities, call 916-383-7387, ext. 9133. Please leave your name and the date of the orientation you plan to attend.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. We do offer youth group activities and community service projects that can be done from home. Please note that these student community service opportunities do not include working directly with the animals due to the extensive training required. We do welcome you to continue once your project is completed and become a regular shelter volunteer.
If you don't want to work directly with the animals, we still need you! The shelter offers a variety of volunteer opportunities that are outside the scope of animal care.
