It's Not the Same Without a Pet - Sacramento SPCA Launches Innovative Campaign Featuring Iconic Cartoon Characters

May 13, 2009

(Sacramento, CA) - The Sacramento SPCA has unveiled a series of hard-to-miss ads as part of a cutting-edge campaign designed to promote the adoption of homeless animals through the use of iconic cartoon images.

The promotional campaign, featuring recognizable cartoon animals (or actually, the absence of said cartoon animals), including Snoopy, Scooby Doo and Garfield, is the brainchild of award-winning Sacramento advertising firm, Glass McClure. The agency created the ads as part of a pro bono campaign on behalf of the Sacramento SPCA.

Thus far, the new ads have run in the Sacramento Bee, LuxLife and Comstock's magazine, and are going up on a few area billboards and bus transit stations this week. The only thing missing now is a sponsor so that the eye-catching ads can be placed throughout the Sacramento region.

"Our goal with these ads is first the catch people's eye, and second to remind people that life really isn't the same without a companion animal," said Rick Johnson, Sacramento SPCA Executive Director. "We hope that these creative ads will encourage people to adopt from the SPCA and other local shelters when they are thinking of adding a pet to their family."

Six to eight million homeless animals enter America's animal shelters each year. The SPCA's unique ad campaign was designed with a very simple message, "It's not the same without a pet. Adopt one." The adoption campaign is getting its feet wet in the Sacramento area, and may be seen on a national level if sponsorship can be secured.
