Sacramento SPCA Assists Over-Crowded California Animal Shelters

News & Events >> Press Releases >>Sacramento SPCA Assists Over-Crowded California Animal Shelters

March 21, 2009

What: The Sacramento SPCA announce that, in addition to its current animal population, it took in 59 dogs today from six over-crowded California animal shelters. The dogs will be available for adoption over the weekend.

Why: Due to California's current economic situation, which includes one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country, most of the state's animal shelters are full to over-flowing with animals needing new homes. Many people are giving up their animals when they are forced to move due to foreclosure, job loss or a difficult economy.

Because the Sacramento SPCA has been so successful in placing animals in new homes through its adoption programs, the shelter has expanded its outreach to overburdened California animal care facilities. The SPCA currently works with more than 15 California shelters, bringing in primarily dogs to its adoption center.

Who: The current population of dogs available for adoption at the Sacramento SPCA includes a variety in nearly every size, shape, color and personality-type.

What Else: Because of the increased dogs at the shelter, adoption rats have been reduced by half to $50 for this weekend. All adoptions include a spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, a microchip, 10-day veterinary care, and more.

When: The Sacramento SPCA is open Tuesday - Sunday from 11AM TO 6pm.

wHERE: The Sacramento SPCA is located at 6201 Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento.
