Community Service Project 3: Used Towel, Blanket, and Toy Drive

Youth Community Service and Group Projects >> High School Service >> Project 3: Used Towel, Blanket, and Toy Drive

What is a used towel, blanket & toy drive?

The used towel/blanket and new and used animal toy drive helps collect items needed used for bathing and bedding for shelter pets and animal toys for young and playful animals to entertain themselves with while staying at the SSPCA.

How do used towels and toys help the animals?

Used towels help our staff bathe shelter animals in need of grooming. Towels can also be used as beds in cages for small animals (cats and puppies), and blankets can be used for dog beds. Toys help entertain animals in cages to prevent boredom. Toys help direct their energy in a positive way.

Sounds like a great idea! How do we get started?

Create posters asking people to donate their used towels and animal toys. The posters can be put up in your school, in community groups or clubs you may belong to, and throughout your neighborhood.

*You will need to decide how the used towels, blankets and toys will be collected and include that information on your posters.

Supplies you will need:

  • Poster-sized paper
  • Colorful pens and crayons
  • Tape/thumbtacks
  • Boxes & bags to pack items
  • A list of acceptable toys
  • A note book to record the names and addresses of the people donating items

What do we do with the towels, blankets and toys once we collect them?

Once you have collected the towels and toys, make sure they are neatly packed in small to medium sized boxes or bags. Record the name and address of each donor along with a description of each donation in a notebook. Inform each donor that they will receive a receipt by mail for their donation.

How do we donate the towels, blankets and toys?

Bring the boxed items to the Sacramento SPCA at 6201 Florin-Perkins Rd. during our hours of operation. Turn in the information from your notebook to the Program Coordinator at 383-7387, extension 9147.

Thank you! Your efforts will make a big difference in the lives of many cats, dogs, and many other pets!
