Youth Community Service and Group Projects >> School Service
All community service applicants are required to complete a community service application, obtain consent from a parent or guardian and return the form to the SSPCA Humane Education Department before beginning your project. Click on "Community Service Application" to view a printable copy of the application. Students of any age or grade level may complete these projects.
To receive credit for time worked, you must record your time on a time sheet. A completed time sheet must be brought to the Sacramento SPCA along with your project so that it can be reviewed and signed by a Sacramento SPCA staff member. Click on "Community Service Time Sheet" to view a printable copy of the time sheet. Remember, each time you bring in any part of your project you must submit your time sheet to receive credit.
To ensure you receive the proper credit for your community service hours you must:
- Choose a community service project (see suggestions below)
- Download, print, complete and send in a Community Service Application (160 Kb, PDF) prior to beginning your project.
- Print the Community Service Time Sheet (12 Kb, PDF) and use it to log the time you spend working on your project.
- Bring your completed time sheet along with your project to the Sacramento SPCA during our regular business hours and ask an SPCA Staff member to review and sign off on your time sheet.
You can choose one of these projects. Click on the links for flyers to guide you in completing your project.
- Newspaper Drive
Newspapers help the animals stay clean and comfortable during their stay with us. They are placed in the bottom of cages housing cats and puppies.
- Used Book Drive
The used books are collected and donated to the SSPCA for their used book sales.
- Used Towel, Blanket and Toy Drive
The used towels help bathe shelter animals in need of grooming and the blankets offer warmth and comfort for our dog guests. The new and used animal toys help entertain animals in cages to prevent boredom.
- Thrift Store Item Drive
The SSPCA Thrift Store is always in need of reusable items in good working condition.
- Pet Treat Drive
Treats help us train and reward shelter pets. Most people combine this with a pet toy drive.
- Other Valuable Projects
In addition to the above opportunities, there are many other things you can do to raise money to help us care for the animals, for example:
- Collect cans and bottles and donate funds
- Hold a garage sale in your neighborhood or at your school and donate proceeds
- Have a coin drive at your school, asking students to donate coins
- Hold a car wash and donate proceeds
