Events and Programs

The Sacramento SPCA hosts numerous annual events as a way to involve the community in its mission to help abandoned and unwanted animals find the love and care they deserve. Through special events, the Sacramento SPCA is able to raise necessary funding for the thousands of animals that come to our shelter each year. Our doors stay open through memberships, donations and special events, as the Sacramento SPCA receives no government funding.

Pet Telethon

Our Pet Telethon which is generally held at the beginning of each year is cancelled for 2009. The Pet Telethon is designed to bring the attention of our adoptable animals to thousands of households throughout Northern California as they search for loving new homes, meanwhile raising funds for our animal friends. The Pet telethon features informational and entertaining video segments, heart-warming stories of pet adoptions and rescues, local entertainment and special guests, including favorite television and radio personalities and a host of other local celebrities.

Doggy Dash

The Doggy Dash, one of the Sacramento SPCA's most anticipated events, will be held this year on Saturday, May 30, 2009 in William Land Park. This fundraising event allows canines to team up with their human companions in a scenic fun run/walk to help raise money for the shelter animals. After the race, participants stroll through Vendors' Row, where they may purchase products and get information from their favorite pet specialty shops and other area businesses. Plus, participants and their canine cohorts can compete in a frisbee contest or the Pup Show, or take a seat on the sidelines as they watch demonstrations and entertainment from agility groups.

Annual Book Sales

The Sacramento SPCA holds two of the largest annual book sales in Northern California each year. The Fall Book Sale, will be held December 3rd through 6th at 6187 Birdcage Center Lane, next to CVS Pharmacy and features thousands of books - all bargains - covering a wide range of categories. Our nine day Spring booksale, held each April, is one of the largest of its kind in Northern California, with many categories of books for sale. Reigning Cats & Dogs
The Sacramento SPCA's Annual Food And Wine Gala

The Sacramento SPCA's premier food and wine tasting event, Reigning Cats & Dogs, is held in the Fall, at the Sacramento Convention Center. This black-tie optional event hosts more than 1,200 guests and features samples offered from more than thirty award-winning wineries and microbrewers, and an equal number of gourmet restaurants. In addition to both a live and silent auction, an exclusive wine and art auction, raffle, live music and entertainment complete the evening.

Third Party Events

Any organization or group can raise money for the Sacramento SPCA by hosting an independent event or project. Please fill out the Third Party Questionnaire and the Third Party Agreement Form then call the Special Events office at (916)383-7387, extension 9102, to find out how your organization or group can raise funds for the Sacramento SPCA.
